Scott Horowitz: “It was ok.”

If you saw the first movie, you pretty much saw this one. It had a little more of the gross out effect, but nonetheless made me laugh.

Scott Hardie: “It was ok.”

It's not necessarily a problem for a sequel to repeat the same story so closely, but it is a problem for a comedy to lack jokes. This movie seems to spend most of its energy plowing through its complicated and familiar plot instead of being funny or doing anything humorous. Zach Galifianakis stole the original; here he's quite diminished but still the only source of smiles, with little throwaway moments like how he stumbles recklessly when trying to board a boat. Did the movie just get too big and too grim for its sense of humor to show through? Lower stakes and punchier rewrites of the script might have saved this.
