It seems young Jamie-Lynn Spears shares her sister's talent for controversy as much as pop stardom. While any young mother-to-be has my sympathy for what must be a daunting situation, I don't mourn the loss of her career. Child stars boost their careers by putting on piety and a squeaky-clean image, and karma's a bitch. Shame that Lynne Spears's guide to Christian parenting got delayed this week after the news.

What I wonder is: If the adult father is convicted of statutory rape (who knows if that'll happen), and Nickelodeon does fire Spears for innappropriate conduct, can her lawyers argue wrongful termination because she's not responsible for what happened since she was technically raped? Lawyers, help me out here.

From what I know of law through osmosis, yes.

Bear in mind that Louisiana law is quite different than law anywhere else in the country, as it's the only state that uses Napoleonic Code and Roman law as a basis for its legal system. In particular, Louisiana family law seems to be based very heavily on Roman legal theories rather than the usual English common law.

Perhaps Steve knows more?

The last I read the guy claiming to be the daddy is 18 years old, under Louisiana law he is only guilty of "unlawful carnal knowledge" whether he will do the maximum 6 months for that crime is a wholly unknown issue

did Nickeolodeon even cancel the show, because I think they just won't renew her contract which is up soon, and they've already taped much of the new season...that way Jamie lynn's lawyers couldn't go after Nickelodeon for letting her go, because her contract is up and they've decided not to renew it.
