Inspired by the "Coke" discussion, I thought about all the weird things people collect, me included. What have you or do you collect?

John E Gunter | October 8, 2004
Anything that strikes my fancy. That doesn't mean that I collect it to the point where I run out of space, but I'll just list some of the things I have collected over the years...

dice
playing cards
minature figures
weapons - mostly of the plastic variety, but I do also own a vintage flintlock
action figures
magazines
tins - like cracker and cookie tins
comic books
antique furniture

Mostly I like antique and very futuristic type items, but that's not the only things I collect.

When I was little, I had a habit of picking up sticks and rocks that looked cool everywhere I went.

I collected tins that were cats when I was little cause I was nuts over cats.

I currently collect miniature glass bottles, toy toasters, and random quotations.

Oh yeah I guess when I was really little I collected glass figurines too. I wonder what happened to them.

"Animation cels of fav characters"

Cool! I was collecting pictures from different sci-fi shows, mostly from the 70s, but they got to be a pain to keep track of and any of them I have anymore aren't in good shape. I've thought about collecting animation cels though, just never quite got far enough to purchase any.

"Coins when I was younger. I have a few coins that are from germany. 2 of them are from world war 2 with the swaztica, a few from when the berlin wall was up, and I think a german mark or pfennig from re-unified germany."

I have some foreign & domestic currency. Started collecting the foreign currency when I was a waiter. Guy tipped me in Bahamian money. Thought he was being funny, but I didn't think so.

Have some Russian rubles, they were given to my grandson, but I knew he wouldn't take care of them, so I've got possession of them. When I no longer need them, he'll get them. They might actually be worth something then.

I'd love to see the Nazi deutsche marks! Those are definitely a piece of history you need to keep and take care of!

Comics, too. One of my biggest regrets was selling my collection. Seemed necessary at the time but now... Still own a few of the undergrounds - Fabulous Furry Freak brothers are hilarious, Wonder Warthog is my fav though.

I don't know whether "collecting" or "accumulating" is the proper term any more. I collect CDs I want to which I want to listen, DVDs I want to watch, and books I want to read, but they're not a collection in the sense that I take care of them. Only the DVDs are on display properly, but I couldn't keep up with all the Special Edition re-releases if I tried.

Collections are certainly useful for one thing: Giving other people easy gift ideas when it comes to your birthday or holiday gifts. But I always ask for CDs, DVDs, books...

Nice images of the coins, Lori. I'm not really into cel collection anymore. Got to many other things I want at the moment.

But as far as what I used to be interested in, or what I might get in the future, providing the time and the money...

Macross
various Disney
Valley of the Wind
Project Aiko

That's about all I can think of for now.
