Damn you straight to hell!

Congrats to those of you who made it to the next day of the elimination phase. I am in awe of the goo prowess 'round these parts.

Scott Hardie | April 3, 2007
You're not the only one.

Scott Hardie | April 3, 2007
Did anyone who subscribes to the GOO Announcements list actually get the email I sent out last night just after midnight? I have had considerable trouble sending email with this new web host.

Steve West | April 3, 2007
Nope.

Kerry Odell | April 3, 2007
No, no email. Come to think of it, I haven't gotten emails about theme weeks since before you left your other host.

And another thing, don't you think it odd that only guys got the goo???? HMMMMMM.....

What I'm really curious about is how he fits into the Family category. I read his bio on their website, but there was no indication.

Aaron Shurtleff | April 3, 2007
Dang! Not what I was expecting. Good luck to everyone else. :)

Scott Hardie | April 3, 2007
Since the end of January, I haven't written any announcements except this one attempt. Normally I write them with of a hidden form on this site, but the site itself can barely send any emails: I have lots of email notifications to myself such as when there's a script error or someone requests a goo, but only about 5% seem to reach me. I haven't bothered trying to write to players for the same reason. This time was important because I didn't want any of the 21 qualified players forgetting, so I tried writing a group email in Outlook (bcc to everyone so you didn't see each others' addresses), but it apparently failed for everyone. I continue to be in touch with tech support and search for replacements.

I put Winkelman in the Family category because his wife hosts a number of TV shows as well, homemaking and cooking shows like Martha Stewart.

Jerry Mathis | April 4, 2007
I could've had 2 weeks and not solved 0994. :-) Never even felt like I was close.

I never received an announcement email either Scott.

Tony Peters | April 4, 2007
yeah I didn't get a notification but then I saw the first goo within about 10 minutes of it's posting and had no clue what so ever so I'm not complaining

Scott Hardie | April 5, 2007
See, here's where it's hard for me to predict. I thought Babe Winkelman was so obscure (he's not even in Wikipedia) that no one would find him. And while nobody here has heard of Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, I thought the clue was too decipherable. I can't call 'em even after nine years.

Amy Austin | April 5, 2007
No notice here, either, though I have received theme week messages. Doesn't matter very much, as I've been too preoccupied to play the game properly lately anyway. There are at least 2 or 3 goos gone by that I know I could have gotten had I taken the time to look for them.

I guess I should go ahead and say it here & now, since it will likely eventually show by a name and/or relationship change on our profiles -- I don't know, maybe not... a preference for privacy on the matter might perhaps prevail if I say nothing... I may even come back and edit this out later when I am feeling less desolate -- and it seems irrevocably decided by the only party that could make it otherwise, that Ed & I are separated (since the new year) with divorce pending. (In case anyone is wondering where I've been and/or why so quiet.) I am fortunate enough to have a few friends here who do their best to distract me from my woes, though it isn't always sufficient on days like today.

Damn you, Steve -- that was my first chance in (and probably for) a long time for Imelda #10!!! But congratulations, as it looks like it may have won you the round. (Sigh) Looks like at least 2009 for my HOF entry, what with your Rainbow Week, this win, and a nearly 50-goo lead on me -- damn you, damn you. ;-)

Steve West | April 6, 2007
Mwaahaahaaahahaha... Seriously, if I had a vote you have to know who it would be for, Darth. But this is not a democracy, so we'll have to wait until then.

Amy Austin | April 6, 2007
Heheh... sure thing, Darth Maul. ;-D

Amy Austin | April 6, 2007
Uh oh... looks like I spoke too soon -- it's a duel!

Scott Hardie | April 6, 2007
I won't let this tiebreaker interfere with the 1000th goo, and we should end it before goo fatigue sets in, so I intend to call the contest on Sunday if it's still going by then. Good luck to both of you remaining.

Amy, I replied separately, but I neglected to mention that you're missed around here too. Best wishes.

Jerry Mathis | April 6, 2007
Good job guys. I looked at the Pumpkins for a while, but that picture had me all messed up. Oh well...

Now let's see a good old fashioned duel!

Scott Horowitz | April 7, 2007
Hey Amy, we're here for you.. the whole goo family. I've been too preoccupied with work to post on here lately, and I don't know what amazes me with these goos lately. Scott coming up with them, or people finding them. Can we do a "You were in an episode of Star Trek" week, i think i'd do better with that.

Scott Hardie | April 8, 2007
And so it ends. I am awed by the skill and perseverance demonstrated by both Steve West and Russ Wilhelm, who I suspect could have kept the tiebreaker going for another full week if I hadn't put a stop to it. Steve guessed the final goo twenty minutes earlier to become the Winner, but Russ came close enough that I will grant him the historial Runner-Up prize. (I had intended to name him Runner-Up, but I forgot that that title is now bestowed based on statistics rather than an arbitrary declaration of the rules. Any ideas what might be appropriate in its place?) Congratulations to both of you on a game played like true champions.

Tony Peters | April 8, 2007
whew it's over......congrats both of you

Russ Wilhelm | April 8, 2007
Steve,
Great game. I bestow my congratulations upon you. I'd like to say that you have a better Internet connection or that sports is my weakest subject (it is, but I think that actually worked in my favor this round), but the simple fact is you just outplayed me. Fantastic job. Again, congratulations on a well deserved win.

Steve West | April 8, 2007
Thanks, sincerely. This was the most enjoyable round so far and there have been many good ones. Most enjoyable not because I won (although that was awesome) but because I really didn't think I could best you guys. My previous win was against pretty good players and I was equally surprised to win then. But since then, the game has been been overrun by some seriously good players. Scott's adjustments of the gameplay has certainly not been because of me but because of the additional players like Amy, Elliot, Jerry and you. Mike, Aaron, Megan, Dave, Denise and Matt were already hard enough to beat - you guys have made the competition that much tougher. No insult intended to those I left out 'cause man is it hard to win this game!

Amy Austin | April 10, 2007
Good job, Steve. Don't worry... I'll be there next round, too. ;-)
