This has been around a while so you guys have probably all seen it but the Simpsons thing got me thinking of a different face recognition program that seems to work a *little* bit better. Click here. Using my photo from this site, my first match was Jane Addams (73%) which is OK, I guess I can see the resemblance, and at least it is a woman :). Next matches:

Jules Massenet 72%
Jeff Daniels 70%
Graham Hill 67%
John Goodman 66% (uh... what??)
Richard Stallman 64%
Therese of Lisieux 64%
Lu Xun 64%
Andre Citroen 63%
Gal Fridman 61%

So what, 2 women and 8 men? If I want to give Darrell concrete proof that I'm not an especially attractive female I guess I got it! By the way I am just kidding around and maybe they just have a lot more men than women in their database. But those of you who managed to track down huge pictures of your face to submit to the Simpsonizer should try this if you haven't. I've experimented with it before and it seemed to work OK, for instance if you give it an Asian person's face it will match mostly to Asian celebrities, and if you find an obscure photo of a celebrity and submit that it seems to correctly identify the celebrity.

OK.... to continue..
Darrell gets:
Michael Rosenbaum 61%
Marilyn Manson 61% (I think people may have told him before that he looked like that dude? I know they told him Kid Rock and some other musicians that are slipping my mind)
David Beckham 60%
Heath Ledger 60%
Andre Breton 59%
Steffi Graf 58%
Josh Groban 57%
Dominic Howard 56%
Tony Banks 55%
Graham Chapman 54%

He got matched to some "hotties" I guess :P The only women I'm supposed to look like are a couple stodgy 18th century types.

Yeah... I have this habit for yammering on and on about stuff that nobody cares about. :)
By the way you do have to sign up with an email address but I really don't think they'll spam you... I was signed up since a long time ago apparently...

These were all the matches for me 70% or more in descending order.

Jason Lee - ???
Ben Stiller - Now I know I'm gonna kill somebody
Shane Filan - Don't know him
Bae Yong-jun - Do I really look asian? Hmmm.
Warren Beatty - Now you're talkin'

The results seem to depend a great deal upon one's facial expression and how one's head is tilted, etc. I managed to get women as results by submitting different pics of myself, particularly one with my hair partly over one eye, where strangely enough the photos in my results had their hair over one eye. Still it is clear the program is doing *something* as far as image recognition, which is interesting enough to me. I'm pretty sure there's better software out there (though not necessarily on the web) but it is cool to see this in action.

Lori yes that is funny that your husband apparently looks like an Asian girl when as far as I know he is neither :) Particularly funny that he came up as one of your goos...

If anyone is bored, I can't access that site, but I'm curious. Run my picture from here and let me know who I look like! ;)

Denise Sawicki | August 24, 2007
Who me, bored?? Aaron, don't get too discouraged by this, I think it is partly the glasses confusing the program... Starred people are wearing glasses.

Janeane Garofalo 71% *
Grace Kelly 66%
Roald Dahl 64%
Bae Yong-Jun 64% *
Kurt Waldheim 64%
Portia Derossi 63%
Aishwariya Ray 63% (I particularly can't fathom the resemblance on this one!)
Nadine Gordimer 63%
Gale Harold 62% (This is a boy despite the name)
Philip Seymour Hoffman 62% (I always liked him) *

Hey you can take comfort in the fact that the computer finds you prettier than me :-) OK I will quit dwelling on that.. I think I got weird results with my first photo because there is too much contrast. I got a lot of black and white results.

Aishwariya Ray? Wasn't she a GOO as the most beautiful woman? I don't know if I should be flattered or scared. :)

I have seen and played around with this before -- both this particular site and another that I couldn't relocate after someone else showed it to me (MyHeritage being the result of trying to find it again)...

I don't have my little disk with all my photos handy, but of the few that I do have available, the results are indeed a bit weird... and yes, I believe that expression, hair, lighting & positioning all have *a lot* to do with your results:

Photo 1:
Anna Paquin (70%)
Parker Posey (66%)
Vince Vaughn (63%) -- !!!
Greer Garson (63%)
Natalie Wood (62%)
Maggie Cheung (61%)
Bridgette Wilson (60%)
Garcelle Beauvais Nilon (58%) -- (she's black, folks...)
Zoe Tay (58%) -- Asians, I'm used to...
Ann Kok (58%)

Photo 2:
Shalom Harlow (78%) -- um... maybe a fatter version of her...
Kate Beckinsale (78%) -- ditto
Gisele Bundchen (75%) -- again
Michelle Williams (75%)
Anna Paquin (74%) -- interesting... more than one hit, same with Bridgette Wilson, below
Mariah Carey (74%)
Bridgette Wilson (74%)
Shu Qi (73%)
Michelle Rodriquez (73%)
Elisha Cuthbert (73%)

My current goo.tc pic ("Big in Japan"):
Marcia Cross (96%)
Martine McCutcheon (90%)
Ashley Judd (76%) -- don't I wish!
Erica Durance (76%)
Katie Holmes (76%) -- I'm thinking more Tom or Suri, actually...
Jolene Blalock (76%)
Aishwariya Rai (76%) -- haha!, Aaron isn't the only pretty little thing around!!!
Kristin Kreuk (76%)
Katherine Heigl (76%)
Uma Thurman (75%) -- I have always thought so about my sister, who also hears it often -- me, not so much

Amy Austin | August 26, 2007
Hmm... using Ed's current goo.tc pic, the results are too funny not to share:

John Cage (67%)
William Shatner (58%) -- ha!
John Belushi (57%) -- really!?
Jared Leto (52%)
Count Basie (51%) -- yes, the same "Count Basie" you're thinking of...
Olav V of Norway (51%) -- okay, this one I buy... I'm surprised the percentage isn't higher!
Chuck Yeager (50%) -- um...
Vincent D'Onofrio (48%) -- keep 'em coming!
Ted Bundy (46%) -- BWAHAHAHA... boom!!! ;-D
Bryan Mcfadden (46%)

Scott Hardie | August 27, 2007
My top six matches before it flew off the rails:

Gary Burghoff*
Wayne Brady*
Cary Elwes*
Nikita Mikhalkov
Reese Witherspoon
John Goodman

*Known for playing happy-go-lucky dorks on television. Better than Ted Bundy, but still.

Lori, you'd probably see it more with the photo to compare, but yeah... I couldn't see most of mine, either -- particularly Vince Vaughn -- but what do I know... ;-D
