Is Lindsay Lohan's career salvageable?

Tony Peters | July 28, 2007
look at Robert Downey jr....he was a write off a decade ago and he's doing fine now. it's been said that Lindsay is a talented actress I'm not saying she's as good as Robert Downey just that she can recover from the destruction she has wrought upon herself if she follows his example and not say Daniel Baldwin.

Amy Austin | July 28, 2007
Please. Like inebriation and/or racism have ever ended anyone's career that fast. (Cue up a zillion Hollywood names that everyone still knows) Her appalling statement ("I can't get in trouble. I'm a celebrity. I can do whatever the f**k I want."), is probably sad but true.

Amy Austin | July 28, 2007
I was going to add Robert Downey, Jr and *cough cough* Mel Gibson, too... but like you said, there's a lot more history and talent backing those guys up.

On a related note... anyone else find it HILARIOUS that Nicole Ritchie is set to do some jail time now, too, AFTER she is done with her PREGNANCY??? I can't help but find it comical... it's like I imagine her talking to her "people" about her buddy Paris... "(big huff)... I can't believe it! That bitch gets ALL the attention... can't any of you DO anything?!?!?!"

Kid Rock brawled with Tommy Lee at the VMA's. Uncle Scoopy's website claims that this continues the epic battle they began at last year's annual MENSA gathering, when they fistfought to a standstill in a dispute over the intellectual integrity of Kid's wildly original but controversial solution to Fermat's Last Theorem.

I didn't really understand the body criticism - people are ridiculous about who is thinner than who.

But she was shockingly lackluster on stage. I heard that they had to do a last minute routine because the original one was cancelled by the venue. So that might be part of it, but she looked so out of it, not focused. It was weird.

Tony Peters | September 11, 2007
see I just thought Tommy and Kid were trying to answer the age old question of who had a bigger.......

Other names come to mind: Courtney Love, Mel Gibson, Whitney Houston, Anne Heche, Martin Lawrence, Winona Ryder, Michael Richards, the list goes on...

I heard about that Timberlake comment too. It bugs me that MTV stopped playing videos so completely that they had to launch a second channel for videos, M2, and then they let that become overrun with shows too. It's only going to continue; I read a few days ago that the music industry has drastically reduced the production budget of music videos because too many of them are now viewed on YouTube and the like, and the luster of a television broadcast is lost. Since when did MTV have luster?

Speaking of shows driving out a channel's supposed purpose for existing, Headline News now airs a block of current-events shows in primetime. Yeah, that Headline News. The one cable channel I still liked has lost its collective mind. Instead of continuing to serve its niche so well, considering that it's the only channel for that niche, it serves up something already done much better on countless other channels. I'm no TV executive, so that must make business sense when you add up the numbers, but it still disappoints me.

As for Spears, the "fat" comments show how far away this country still is from giving up its ridiculous and dangerous mindset about skinny young women. It's not just a matter of principle; teenage girls are dying of the conditions influenced by that mentality. One day our daughters will live to see the end of it, I hope.

Please forgive the cranky nature of this comment; TV brings it out of me.

Seriously. If you think Britney Spears is fat now, you're crazy!

hell Britney no longer has a girls hips....she has a womans hips and rightly so after giving birth twice but i honestly think that even had she made a better costume choice (doesn't she have an entourage that is supposed to stop her from making mistakes like that) the fact that she genuinely gave a BAD performance was the thing that caused everyone to make fun of her. I mean seriously have you watched how bad she was? It's all over youtube...so the poor choice of clothing only accented the fact that she sucked

Anna Gregoline | September 14, 2007
She is widely known to ignore all "handlers" advice.

At least she is being realistic and not having her body lipo-ed and botoxed to hell like many other stars post child birth. Maybe she did get some lipo. But still.

I would find it very hard to believe she didn't have any plastic surgery - I hear it's very common for celebrity women to have that C-section and then a tummy tuck immediately afterward.

Picking on Britney Spears is shooting ducks in a barrel at this point (suicidal ducks even), but the folks at ageprogression.org have determined what she might look like at 36 and 46. I'm less interested in gawking at the decline of a once-sexy celebrity (that's pretty close to my present appearance) than I am at the impressive demonstration of their technology. This highly-publicized sample of their work will no doubt get many people to try out their service.

it's completely obvious that MTV used Britney knowing full well that she was not ready and mentally unstable to perform. It's all about the ratings and because of her, yes her, they saw a significant spike from the 2006 show. It makes me very angry to read the negative body comments, which are due mostly to bad outfit choice, but rumor has it she demanded to wear it over a pre-selected corset, which also highlights her not being in the right state of mind to perform and make good decisions. her mind was in a fog consisted, I'm sure, of nervousness, anticipation, and a mixture of anger and sadness due to the fact that she had just lost her children to Kevin Federline. All of these factors translated to the poor performance we saw that night. She had no one guiding her properly in preparation for the show, and in the months since the performance, she has an even poorer support system that diminishes by the hour. I truly feel for her and hope she gets well.

I feel the same way. When Owen Wilson's suicide attempt became public, people thought, "why would a happy guy like him, who seems to have everything going for him, want to do that to himself?" But when Britney Spears tried it a few weeks ago, the public seemed to nod and think, "Yeah, I can see that." That sounds like a joke, but I think it's a sad reflection of how disastrous her life has become. And each further incident just draws more hordes of photographers who blanket her home and every public appearance, driving her closer to the brink. It's a sad, sad case.

Incidentally, I'm glad to see your interest in TC, Jason. Welcome to the forum!

Jason Melo | February 27, 2008
Exactly! People were even placing bets on when Britney would die, not to mention the fact that many publications have made statements confirming they've already written her obituary. The media keeps setting her up for negative situations. Can you imagine if someone was already writing your obituary in the midst of one of the darkest times in your life?I mean one really has to put him or herself in the this young woman's shoes to understand what she puts up with every hour of every day. It's hard to visualize because we're not celebrities, but it's the sad truth that she is on a downward spiral and the public is pushing her farther. People want her to fail so they can be entertained.

Thanks for the welcome, Scott. I really enjoy this forum!

Is this Chris Crocker?!?!?

I kid... it's true how cold the "adoring public" can be -- I feel sorry for Brit, too. And as sick as it is to have the obit ready (I heard about that one, too), it's just one of those cold-hard-fact side effects of living in a day and age where 1) the media has to move at lightning speed to be worth its salt, and 2) heartbreakingly young celebrities are leaving a stunned world in tragically rapid manner on a fairly regular basis! Despite the unintentional nature of his death, I'm sure that if anyone had enough of an inkling about Heath's predicament, they would have had his obit ready, too. It's not just poor Britney... they've got obits prepped for people from Lindsey Lohan to Liz Taylor. Sure, it's not quite the same sort of expectation, but it's still pretty morbid, no?
