Do people actually collect those "Limited Edition" 24-packs of Coke with seasonally-themed cans? Anybody? Anywhere?
Amy Austin | June 20, 2009
Somebody... somewhere... but not here.

I do have a collection of Coke (bottles & cans) from around the world (places I have been). But no 24 pack limited editions here.....
Scott Hardie | June 22, 2009
That example makes sense to me, since it's a souvenir of somewhere that you went and want to remember. I don't need a souvenir of my trip to the neighborhood Publix.
I know there are some Coke collectors (and Pepsi collectors) who take it a long way, purchasing every Coke item they can get their hands on. Everybody collects something, I guess. But it seems like these grocery-store cases are being promoted to everybody, with "Limited Edition" stamped all over it as though the average shopper is supposed to care. Maybe I should just ignore a marketing message that isn't directed at me.

"Limited Edition" isn't always necessarily a marketing message that says "COLLECT THESE!" -- sometimes the message is just "look at this packaging... it's different and special because something's going on... don't you want to buy from us because we're different and special for noticing?" This is definitely a marketing message that is directed at *everyone*. You may not give a damn... or maybe you think it's cool enough to save the message for posterity. The vendor definitely appreciates those who appreciate the message... so much so that they will find a reason to send the message again and again -- but... as someone who once aspired to (real) Coke collecting and who has a lot of junk as a direct result, I don't think it's all about "collecting", honestly.

Thanks, Jackie... that's nice to hear since I recently chopped off six inches and cried about it the rest of the week -- I hate it. It's the shortest it's been in ten years (boot camp) and still not even as short as that pic, in which I was happy with my hair... well, happier in general, really. But that was twenty years ago, too. I chose it for all of these reasons.

Collecting things.....
skateboards.......but I use/destroy those over time
bicycles....selling all of them to fund a single fixxed gear for commuting
shoes....only because I am trying to find ones that don't hurt my ankle
snowboards.......3 but I made 1 and one is only a rock board for when the conditions aren't good enough for my pride and joy
straight razors-----I shave with them and its easier to have 4-5 sharp ones and only sharpen them 1-2 a month
little toy 1/18scale motorcycles.......Ok this one has me hiding my head in shame I've even built a display case for them (though I do need to find a wall to mount it on, I have about 150 of the damn things.)
No I don't collect soda, don't even drink it most months
Amy, you look good in short hair
Amy Austin | June 23, 2009
I *have* looked good in short hair... many times. I do not look good in *this* short hair... in my opinion.

LOL Jackie, my ankle post break has caused more pairs of shoes to go in the trash
Amy Austin | June 24, 2009
That's not very green of you -- I hope you mean given away...
Tony Peters | June 24, 2009
well a couple of my skate shoes were nothing more than shoe goo and laces but 2 pairs of hiking shoes went in the salvation army box...I'm hoping that I'll be able to wear my loafers by the fall
