When James Kirk was presented this no-win situation he reprogrammed the simulator so that he could rescue the doomed freighter. For this he received a commendation for "original thinking". In the real world, this happens.

yeah but Kirk just hacked it so that it was winnable he still did the work to rescue the freighter, he didn't just change the outcome and not do any work

I failed all the tests in that class, but I still got an A.

The commenters below the article complain about the excessive punishment facing the boy for his various crimes, but I highly doubt he'll actually do 38 years. More like community service and a few years of probation to make sure he doesn't try more cyber-crime. He'll get a GED, but who knows about his college prospects, if any.

if he is/was actually any good college isn't that important. There a plenty of people who will put him to work some of them are even government. If not well college probably wouldn't have made much of a difference to his future
