Here's an interesting article (thanks Greg) on the lack of a generation gap these days, as more adults act like kids. Do you recognize yourself in the article?

I wonder what the implications will be for the next generation. There's a certain likelihood that they'll be forced to grow up faster. ("Dad, you're 55, you can't skateboard any more. I'm going to take care of the house while you're in traction.") But I really can't see them swinging conservative like little Alex P. Keaton. Can they possibly turn out to be even more selfish and adolescent than their parents? How many generations could we have left as a society if this trend went on like that?

huh I'm pretty sure that I fit a lot of that demographic, I have 4-5 pairs of sneakers/skateshoes, 11 skateboards, I ride a fixed gear and have been using a messenger bag instead of a briefcase since I was 22 (42 now) I don't own a suit though I have 5 sportcoats, I have never shopped at Urban outfitters and actually had to look it up last week because I was clueless as to what it was. Music wise my taste is better, Interpol does not sound like Joy Division....no matter what anyone says

Jackie the topic in question concerning Urban Outfitters was concerning the fact that they are now selling color coordinated fixxed gear bicycles for the Hipster set.......this will undoubtedly lead to people who really shouldn't be on a bike of this nature getting one as a fashion accessory and injuring or killing themselves. Of course the fact that this will also be removing hipsters from the gene pool can be seen as a bonus so overall it's pretty much a wash.

Personally I shop at whatever is cheap and fits my state of mind but I can usually be found in cargo shorts and a T-shirt of some kind if I have a choice., I am definitely not high on fashion just comfort. Bar hopping has never really been my style and it's been almost 3 years (and one tattoo) since the last time I was drunk, not that I am on the wagon just that I don't go out and blow money in a bar very often. But a lot of the attitude listed there certainly applies to me and a number of the folks I spend time with I skateboard in one discipline or another 3-5 times a week, with people varying in age from 22-55 years of age. I listen to music on my IPOD pretty much religiously and I would bet that anyone from age 18 to 80 would find something on it that they would enjoy listening to (unless you really hate jazz that is

I think riding a fixie has been "cool" for about 4-5 years though for hipsters maybe 2-3 years before that it was "single speed" bikes...I've been on one or another for nearly 3 decades. however I have never been cool I am something of a cross between a skatepunk and a geek
Music wise IMO we are blessed to have MP3 players in general and Ipods in particular....I went through 2-3 "walkman" cassette players a year for from the mid 80's until nearly 2000, I think my first MP3 was 56K and though I have owned 40gb but for 2 years I have had a 1gb Gen2 shuffle for my music and I couldn't be happier
