Which qualities or characteristics of childhood should we strive to preserve throughout our lives?

I'm not entirely sure that's true. I grew up in a very accepting and awesome household, but I remember being extremely young and being kind of afraid of black children. I don't know why, I can't remember why, but until I made some black friends, I was kind of scared of them.

I don't know why this was, but it was. I will probably regret relating this story.

I do agree for the most part though - once kids get their questions out of the way, they usually accept someone.

I think kids lose sleep over stuff though - at least I did. Not as many worries as today, but kids also don't have the right perspective - so life can be pretty scary when things will just work out fine.

On the subject of kids sleeping, I wish I could fall asleep like a kid -- running around full of energy for hours on end, then suddenly out like a light. Like most people, I've spent too many years staying up long into the night and made it hard on my body to fall asleep on cue.

My boyfriend is a huge night owl - he blames his mom working second shift while pregnant with him.

This discussion reminds me of one that I tried to start three years ago but never got any replies, The Myth of Childhood. Now that the readership has grown, maybe someone can find something to say about it?

Jackie took my answer. Damnit!
