9-1-1: Lonestar is a spinoff of 9-1-1 starring Rob Lowe as an FDNY firefighter who survived 9/11 who moves to Austin, TX to be the chief of "The 126" - a house that had lost all but two members to a deadly fire. One remains on the crew, one does not - he was the chief and causes a bunch of issues.

Here is the logline:

A New York firefighter relocates to Austin, Texas with his son, where he works to save people's lives while trying to solve his own personal problems.

Lowe's character is a pretty boy who loves his skincare routine and hair products. He redesigns the house so it is modern, comfortable, and inviting. He also recruits a badass, diverse team from around the country to work with him.

He survives a cancer scare among other things and at the end of season two, we find The 126 facing being shut down and everyone reassigned. Lowe's character punched out the man who ordered it (the old 126 chief).

Here is an episode guide on IMDB. I'm having a ridiculously hard time finding a link that will only give summaries for each episode, sadly.

Edit: and of course I find the wiki after I post this. /smh

Four Replies to 9-1-1: Lone Star | Fox (Hulu) | Season 3

9-1-1: Lone Star | Fox (Hulu) | Season 3 | Episode 1: The Big Chill

The beginning of season three sees the team from "The 126" on the verge of demolition. This is the first of two parts (I hope).

TK and Carlos have apparently broken up; Marjan is chaining herself to the firehouse as the wrecking ball nears; Grace is about to pop with twins; TK, Nancy, and Tommy are working for a commercial ambulance service; Owen is chopping wood out in the boonies; and the team has been split up to different houses - though it appears Judd, Marjan, and Paul are at the same one.

Oh and there is a snowstorm hitting Austin. We see a couple out saving turtles from freezing and come across a boy under the ice (we don't know what happened to him, yet). A dude is out skiing behind a truck and gets hit in the neck by a sheet of ice - nearly beheading him, but of course, our team of EMTs save the day.

Marjan travels to Owen to bitch at him for not signing an apology for hitting Billy, "I'm not sorry". Instead of hanging out, she leaves to go back to town in the storm, claiming she can handle it. Ok, I get she's a firefighter - but she's also from Miami. Not a lot of snow there. So of course the episode ends with her crashing.

The big question seems to be: "Why did TK and Carlos break up?" (at least around the interwebs), not "will The 126 get back together?".

How similar is this to the original LA-based 9-1-1?

I tried watching that a few times based on my love of ER (they even have the phenomenal Angela Bassett in common), but the rescue scenes were just too far-fetched for me. The show was stretching into the realm of nearly-impossible events in order to manipulate me into being sad or excited or whatever, when it could have gotten by just fine with much more plausible scenarios.

From your description, Lone Star sounds more character-driven and more about the mundane daily work of the department head, but maybe not?

Oh they definitely have shit happen there that is not realistic.

Last year, they had a giant dust storm come through and I read some comments on IMDB from locals that said this would never happen in Austin due to specific geographic limitations.

And the sheet of ice that almost beheaded that guy - they had to melt some of it away without moving it because it had clipped his carotid. Well, if you could see how it was resting on his neck - logically, it should have sliced through.

But I also feel like there is decent character development in the L.A. version... Angela was why I watched it in the first place, haha!

But the hard truth is that I watch too much TV and once we get through this snowstorm (in Austin, mind you) - if it drags, I might have to let it go.

9-1-1: Lone Star | Fox (Hulu) | Season 3 | Episode 2: Thin Ice

Well. Sadly, the season opener IS a trilogy. Here is TV Fanatic's review.

We found out what happened to the kid under the ice, but now TK is in the ICU as a result. The last we heard was "we need to find his father". Nancy called Carlos - lying to him to say that TK was asking for him (he didn't - but that's because he's unconscious with a tube down his throat).

We didn't get to Marjan until the end... but we pretty much just saw her wake up.

A building had collapsed under a lot of ice while they were trying to find someone who they hadn't counted while evacuating - because the list they'd used to count with was made by her, so she wasn't on the list. So some of the episode was dealing with that. Something tells me the girl is connected to someone who can save the 126.

Questions for next week:
* What's going on with Marjan?
* Will Owen be able to keep the peace?
* Will TK live?
* Will the 126 be saved?
