Evie Totty: “It ruled.”
Ok let me give a bit of a background with me and musicals.
I hate them. I will break down and watch one if I feel the movie will be good despite it being a musical. Such as La La Land.
As is the case with this film.
I'm telling you guys - this movie was so awesome, I want to get the soundtrack and listen to it a lot and sing songs from the film.
Which I ABHOR when people do that when they karaoke.
THAT is how much I loved this movie. More than once tears were in my eyes - and it wasn't even at the sad parts. I just was swollen with emotion. And this was about PT Barnum. The man who reportedly said - famously - that there is a sucker born every minute.
Though this film decided to concentrate on another quote of his: “The noblest art is that of making others happy”
As a person who was on the outside looking in much of their life - I could relate to 'Phin'. Wanting to prove that he deserves to be successful. He just didn't know where to stop. And lost it all. But in the end - in the face of tragedy - he figured out what was really important. And delegated.
So there you go folks. A musical that was so good that it makes me want to sing show tunes. I might have to make this my favorite movie of the year. Which was Logan prior. Another Hugh Jackman vehicle.
I'll have to think hard on that one. Maybe watch Logan again. This review contains spoilers. Reveal it.
