Is it me or has going to the movies become less enjoyable than it used to be. I went to see TMNT with my roommate tonight, and in no particular order the following things happened

Someone talking on their cell phone using the speaker phone
Child screaming for 20 minutes before parents took them out
Teenagers not shutting the fuck up
Guy behind me snoring
My roommate kept farting... well, not much you can do about that one.

I think it's getting to the point where I may just wait for video. I really think people are so fucking inconsiderate now. I think it would be nice if they had some "mature" theaters. Not for porn, but for adults to see movies and not have to deal with immaturity.

I got into the habit of buy the DVD while I was in Japan and it was cheaper than seeing the movie in the theater (Spiderman cost me $47.63 to see it on the big screen). There are some movies that I think should be seen on the bigscreen, StarWars for sure but for me that type of mvie is becoming fewer and further between. As for people in the theaters if a phone rings, I have seen people get up and track down the SOB to yell at him, (it was very funny) and would likely do it myself if someone else didn't. My local theater has a baby clause posted...if it screams it leaves and you loose your ticket. Politeness is fading from our society thoug and the fact that we have to legislate that people have to use common sense is just a sign of how far we have fallen

I agree. When we go to the movies (very rarely), it's a special night out and we try and do it at weird show times so the theatre will be empty. I HATE being packed in with people crunching and munching and playing with their stupid cell phones, etc. I haven't had to deal with babies screaming but I've heard it from everyone I know. It can't even be healthy to take a small child into such a loud theatre.

actually Jackie the rest of the stuff is pretty cheap, the movie theater was the cheapest place I ever bought beer while in Japan. Tempura and sushi are considered fast food there much like a not dog here, not high cuisine

Last week I was bothered by a crying toddler during 300, and tonight I saw a man taking what looked like his 10-year-old son into The Hills Have Eyes 2. These films aren't just R-rated, they push the extreme boundary of what an R rating can get away with, edited within a second of NC-17 for violence.

My advice, Scott, is to go on a weeknight. I usually restrict my moviegoing to a Tuesday or Wednesday night, when I have the theater to myself or at best a few other people several rows away. Going on Saturday is asking for a crowd and crowds are always rude, except in Sarasota Florida where you're the only person under 70 and the only noises are the persistent hacking coughs.

I wasn't much interested in TMNT to begin with and the trailer made it look awfully corny, but damn if I'm not suddenly considering going, now that it's out. I could use a bit of dopey fun. What did you make of it?

went to the movies last night here in DG and through out the entire playing of Tenacious D we had to deal with to Gecko's having sex on the screen...rather amusing when you think about it

I actually liked it. Plotwise was dumb, but they dealt a lot into character development and relationships. I'm still shocked that the guy used the speakerphone on his cell phone.... it amazes me how dumb people are.

I'm excited too, Jackie, but I can't help but hate it when a trailer shows you exactly how major characters will die. If you haven't seen either Spidey trailer (they both give it away) and don't want to know, close you eyes and cover your ears.

You know...I must be dense because I've now seen both (or at least two different) Spiderman 3 trailers, and I got no clue as to what major character(s) will die. I have some ideas for ones I wouldn't miss if they did die, but ... I do see that a certain one will be badly injured, but I didn't see a death...unless I should assume that the injury leads to death?

Ignorance really is bliss, I suppose! ;)

Scott Hardie | April 7, 2007
Well, I've now seen four very different Spidey trailers (not counting the short teaser), and some cancel out what others "reveal." So please disregard.

speaking of trailers I want to see this It almost looks like it related to Grosse Point Blank
