Congratulations Erik! When is the big day? What did you do for the proposal?

Steve West | November 25, 2010
Congrats!!! Lucky girl or lucky guy? I'd say both.

Congrats! That is exciting.

Erik, let me join the chorus of congratulations. Two thumbs are indeed exciting. Plus there's the engagement thing. Sweet!

Being on Facebook with you all at the same time is kind of weird. I knew of Erik's engagement a few hours before he mentioned it here, and of Samir's a few weeks ago. But I didn't offer congratulations there, just a "like," which seems like the modern-day equivalent, a notion that would make Miss Manners spin in her grave if she wasn't still alive.

Saying something here, even belatedly, seems more meaningful. I wish you both every happiness, and in the future I hope to spend time with you both (and your fiancées, and your thumbs).

Thanks all. We're pretty excited.

I popped the question while we were back home in Texas for Thanksgiving (well, back to my home... she's from Illinois). My home town is a small Texas town so there aren't a great deal of romantic places to pop the question. Fortunately, the courthouse lawn had some pretty lights in a Christmas scene, so I managed to convince her to go for a drive around town, and then "take some fun pictures in front of the Christmas scene at the court house." We took a few pictures, and then I spouted off the corniest line of my life:

"Is it ok that we didn't go see Harry Potter tonight? (we had talked about going earlier)." She says, "Yeah, that's fine." I say, "Well, why don't we make this night magical anyway?"

Boom. Down on one knee. Ring in hand. Question popped.

Cheesy, I know. But it was great.

Currently, the date is set for December 30 of next year.

Well done Samir. Congrats

Damn, Samir. You win. Game over. I bow to the master. I wish I was clever enough to come up with something like that. Very, very nice.

And congrats!

Congrats Samir

Great stories, both. :-)
