Yes, It's Hot Enough For Me
by Steve West on April 5, 2012

Recent conversation with Brenda:
Brenda: The weather's been getting a lot warmer lately.
me: I believe I noticed.
Brenda: I'm worried that our air conditioner is too old and won't be good enough this summer.
me: It'll probably last one more summer.
Brenda: I'm afraid the girls will get heat stroke.
me: I'll get heat stroke before they will. Consider my collapse an early warning system. Buy a new air conditioner with the insurance money.
Brenda: What makes you think the air conditioner is good enough?
me: I really don't know but we can test it. I'll invite Scott and Kelly up this summer. If they come in the house and feel like they're at home and then go outside and comment how chilly they are - I'll spring for a new air conditioner.
Brenda: Sounds good but don't get heat stroke.
me: Heat strokes aren't all that bad. I'll have the best tan in hell and it's all the fun of a real stroke without that left side paralysis thing.

You and Me, Albert
I just returned from an hour long wait at BestBuy to get a laptop we bought last week. I was there to retrieve it after the data transfer was completed by their Geek Squad. I stood in line watching four staff running around in circles helping one customer while me and six others in line watched stupefied. Go »
My Child is a Kite
Parenting is like flying a kite. When I was a boy of nine, I went out to fly a kite on the banks of the Potomac River. The Virginia border sat just across the river. Go »
Random Thoughts While Stuck in Traffic
There's a serious traffic jam on the 495 Washington beltway that I happen to be stuck in. It's worse than stop & go, stop & go - it's more like stooooooop & go, stoooooooooooop & go. Trying to stay awake, my mind is wandering, giving me images and sounds. Go »
Christmas Post # 18: It's The Force, Not An Empty Box
My brother is a collector of sorts. He has various bits of Civil War memorabilia, Washington Redskins gear, and science fiction flotsam from Star Trek and Star Wars. If these toys actually existed, he'd be one of the first in line. Go »
Knock Knock Knockin' On Morpheus' Door
Nestled in the arms of Hypnos, my daughter woke me with the sounds of retching. She is struggling with a very phlegmy cough that makes sleeping difficult for her and impossible for me. What with all the changing of bedding in the middle of the night, clothing, dosing with medicine, and comforting - I lost a significant amount of sleep. Go »

Works for us. Our own central air conditioner is pretty weak: On a recent day, it was 94 outside, 82 inside. Can you get heat stroke while sitting inside in the shade? I have a window unit and Kelly's about to get a portable unit, so we'll survive, but it's definitely summer here already -- indoors.
