clue: Remember the Tom Hanks movie The Terminal? He was like that, but in space.

explanation: Krikalev was a flight engineer aboard the Mir space station in December 1991 when the Soviet Union disbanded. Since the landing site intended for his return was now located in an independent country, it took months longer for him to return to Earth than originally planned. He was nicknamed "the last Soviet citizen." The clue references the movie The Terminal (inspired by a true story) about a man stranded at a New York airport because he cannot legally enter the U.S. nor return to his home country, both due to a coup that occurred while his plane was in flight. more…
