Irene.....what a b!tch
by Tony Peters on August 29, 2011

the storm was past people were starting to move around and then I hear what sounds like a gunshot coming from the south east corner of our house......we walk out side and a tree half a block away crashed into the power lines ripping my transmission line off the house along with a a bunch of siding. Joy. not only no power but I have repairs to do before we can even get power back. the only highlight is that at least I'll have power before the end of the week. My parents live on Aquidneck island which lost one of the main transmission towers. they are looking at weeks before they get power again

the lack of power doesn't bother me its the damage to my house that's most annoying

One large tree came down in my neighborhood but didn't affect me and thankfully no one else. Power is good but I won't know about the new house for sure until the final walk-through Wednesday night.

Weeks is nothing we had months when we were living in Guam...reason to own a generator
yeah the island has too many people who know people they ended up getting the lion share of the manpower in the state for the first 2 days after the storm.....they have power.....I got mine back at about 8 am yesterday new service wire as well.....cable and internet this afternoon. I did most of the repairs on the house there is still a piece of outside corner trim that needs replacing.
The offending tree was chopped up by the city today I took a couple of logs to season and sculpt this spring

Ha! Good news! Revenge on the evil tree. Turn it into something beautiful.

happy home maker
Ok before my furnace blew up I had been investing in food items for longterm storage and use. I got a deal on 1pound of vanila beans around new years as well as 2 gallons of peeled garlic last week. Anyway with water turned off in my house all day yesterday (furnace being replaced) I decided that it was a good time to do something about all the garlic and while I was at it make some xmas presents for next year (added bonus time spent in front of the stove means warmth). well I got to work this morning and I got my holiday break back...it seems that our money guys don't want to pay to have 2 groups of people traipsing around the med at roughly the same time soooooo...they want one team to fly from end to end and then back again over a three week period and it's probably gonna end up costing as much if not more than it would for 2 teams to but and here is the part that sucks for me it'll cost less this year, and we are broke this year, Jan 1 starts are next batch of money...so Go »

a 07:30 phone call saying ooppsss uimmmm well it turns out that you are gonna have to go after all and we are gonna have to send 2 teams is not that way I wanted to start the day. Neither is sweet talking the travel clerk who's day we ruined yesterday to redo all the work she did yesterday....however other than cancelling my New Years plans, a ride with my dad and a climb with my brother, this on again off again travel thing isn't too much of a burden. Music as a muse
since I restarted school music has become a more dominant part of my daily activities. I have used up/worn out a number of pairs of headphones finally inventing in a set of Grado's and a CMoy amp so I can tune out the world while I am in the studio. my taste in music has changed significantly in the last 2 years......while Go »
the toils of being a home owner
just when you think that everything is groovy boom your furnace burps blowing all the seals and well $6000 later you can have heat again. Mind you it was 12degrees yesterday when this happened and at present I can't keep my house any hotter than 55degree's or the house fills with smoke...not to mention that the soonest I can get a new furnace installed is thursday. Sorry to hear it. I've been without power in the summertime for a few days post-hurricane and it's an annoying test of patience. Hang in there.
