Is it bratty to not like brats?
by Denise Sawicki on August 9, 2026

As I mentioned, I'm not even the biggest fan of bratwurst, so it's a mystery why I just bought 15 of them (especially given that Darrell tries to be a vegetarian). The first night we tried them the "normal" way, in a bun with mustard. I must say I was not a big fan. The skin on them is so tough you have to rip into it violently with your teeth with every bite, like a lion devouring its prey. Hot fatty juice splatters everywhere. Maybe this animalistic process is part of what appeals to some people, I dunno.
The next time, I tried making thin slices which I then cooked with eggs and served with a pile of spinach. This was definitely better. The spinach tones down the flavor of the brats and vice versa. It wasn't super amazing, but I have a ton of frozen spinach to use up, so I'll likely try something like that again.
The third time, I cooked slices with some orange bell pepper, onions, and mushrooms. This was delicious! In no way does the bell pepper have to be orange, lol.
Don't know why I feel the need to post my boring dinners. Scott, certainly don't take my posting on your page as a demand for a reply, lol :)

Back in Fargo
I have arrived home after a safe and uneventful flight. Thanks for the memories! It was fun. Go »
New Camera
I didn't realize you could get a digital camera for $15 now... Once I became aware of this fact, I had to have one! Darrin got rid of his camera phone and this will serve the same purpose. Go »
Lost Things
Darrin's sheet and pillowcase disappeared some time back, and I just discovered my nice black pants are missing. I almost always wear jeans so I have no idea how long they have been gone. We searched thoroughly for these items and the only theory we can come up with is that Darrin's ex-girlfriend took them. Go »
D&D first impressions
So our books came yesterday and I've been reading the Dungeon Master's guide as scheduled while Darrell's been reading the Player's Handbook. It's quite obvious I am going to have to read the Player's Handbook too since there is not so much actual useful information in the DM guide. It has lots of pages about different playing styles, how to handle different personalities in your group, and weird stuff like how to write cryptograms, but not so much useful data on the actual rules. Adventures with food
So, Darrell is getting really into cooking lately so I got him a pasta machine and this weekend we used it for the first time.. OK I used it... and it was kinda fun! Go »

Oh, I'm going to reply, even if I have to get over illness and a quick weekend trip first. 😛
While I like the taste of brats, I too find the "pop" when you bite through the casing to be mildly off-putting. Some people really like a dense casing; my father loved knackwurst for that reason. Me, I eat brats in spite of it.
I like your ideas to mix them up. Maybe stir some into German potato salad?
