explanation: Wittmer, her husband Heinz, and her stepson Harry were among the original settlers of Floreana Island in the Galapagos in 1932, after which a series of suspicious disappearances captured the public imagination. In 1960, she published her memoirs Floreana: A Woman's Pilgrimage to the Galapagos. She eventually died in 2000 and was buried on the island.
