Ok to be clear - this really was just one season covering one story, split up into two parts.

Michael Dorn was in Clubhouse last year and they let folks come up and ask him questions. I was lucky enough to be chosen to come up. Instead of asking him shit about Star Trek (like everyone else) - I asked him if he could recommend a show to binge. I figured it would be a good question because he had talked about how he is not only an actor but also a director and writer. I could tell he was very appreciative of the question when you could hear the excitement in his voice and mentioned Lupin as one of two shows (I can't remember the other one right now). And for the rest of the night, others agreed this was a good show to watch.

I had heard of it and might have even watched a couple of episodes with my daughter at this time, but had put off completing it, because I wanted to finish watching it with her, but I kept forgetting and finally watched the rest of it this past weekend.

This is a French show - I watched it subbed (I don't even know if it is available dubbed).

It's about a man named Assane Diop whose father had been framed by his employer for stealing a necklace. The employer - Hubert Pellegrini - is a very powerful man with powerful governmental connections. He even had the father murdered while in prison, but it was set up as a suicide.

The father had given Assane a book about Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief. He knew his father was innocent. Lupin became his role model and he grew up to be a gentleman thief. This season is centered on Diop getting justice for his father - which he is able to finally pull off, but at the cost of being on the run.

He has a son (14) and an ex-wife type. I don't think they were ever married, but they'd been together since they were children. She loves him, but his lifestyle drives her crazy and when his mission for justice almost gets their son killed, she refuses to let Diop even see him.

One of the police officers tasked with catching him after he steals the necklace from The Louvre is a fan of Lupin and figures out early on that the thief's MO was the same as Lupin - but his partners scoff at the idea. At one point, he gets entrenched in Diop's adventures as he was present during the son's kidnapping and eventually saves him.

He's torn because of course Diop is a criminal, being a thief and all, but finds himself helping with the mission because Pellegrini frames Diop for murder and the policeman knows he could not have done it, because Lupin would not have.

Diop also has a best friend, Ben, who helps him pull off many - if not all - of his crimes and his plan to get justice for Diop's father. I was amazed at how far he went for his friend. I didn't expect him to turn him in or anything, but there were times where he could have peaced out of fear of getting killed. But he was there until the very end.

It's a good watch and many people have this on their "best list' of the past year (though others don't). A third season has been greenlit, but it is unknown when it will come out.

I confess that a tiny part of me wants to see this solely because of the Gothic Earth connection. But I am also aware of the show's excellent reputation and that's a much less silly reason, so I might check it out. :-)
