explanation: John "Chickie" Donohue was an unemployed merchant seaman in 1968 who grew tired of neighborhood protests against the Vietnam War and wanted to make a grand gesture of support to his friends who were all serving. He arranged transportation into the country and tracked down several guys from his local bar in their respective units, bringing each a can of beer.
