Ok this is new england it's not supposed to be this hot...I'm sure Amy actually feels at home but it's been too long since I lived in Guam this is hot. I had plans for this weekend but instead other than a dump run I tried to stay in and stay cool. I failed on both accounts because I needed to do some work in my garage...even the dog was unhappy spending time outside and readily accepted being hosed off. But my garage is more organized though still not clean...I got rid of a kayak...got our bikes hung from the rafters and after not accomplishing enough ended up soaked to the skin

The highlight of my weekend was the realization that our new computer fund was full...so i have a new (to me) refurb Macbook on its way to me this week...I finally get to become completely bilingual. I have been looking forward to switching to a Mac for the last few years, my complete annoyance with windows and my present computer's continuing registry errors and I'm ready for a change...

Four Replies to sticky nasty weekend

You get used to every summer day being hot here, so you almost don't notice when there's a real scorcher. Friends up north have to point out the scalding temperatures across the country for it to sink in. I've heard from several this weekend.

oh I know I lived in Guam for 4 years, In Guam it only drops out of the 90's (with 100% humidity) when a typhoon rolls through...and most of that temperture drop is windchill; 100-200mph winds chill regardless of the ambient temp. I'm just whining because I don't like hot weather, and days like today (also in the high 90's) make me yearn for someplace like Portland

Beyond annoying...

well I'm officially retired now, sorta looking for a job but content to work in and around the house for a bit. My one task that I need to accomplish is to complete my VA claim and boy is that annoying....I have my medical record all 5 inches of it and I have to prove each issue that I am claiming and when I first had it treated....this Go »

the next grand adventure..........

as a retired sailor I really thought nothing of deploying and leaving my wife with the cats and dog at home while I went off to fight wars, fix submarines and otherwise earn a living.......now the shoe is on the other foot. I am in school fulltime taking care of the cats, the dog the house and whatever else pops up while my wife and best friend moves to DC to take her dream job. Go »

Art........

OK so since the summer my creative obsession has been growing. It started in my drawing 2 class with a professor who would turn out to be the man who has completely changed how I both look at and create art, Ben Anderson is an interesting man The first serious piece of the semester was Morf, a Gargoyle I created using mostly found metal from a local bike shop (I have taken to visiting on a weekly basis to acquire additional materials....Morf was the first time I have had a piece of art that I am woking to create completely dominate my thoughts. Mornings....

It's cool today. As I pull on my jacket, the leather creaks as the zipper closes. The engine, a bit reluctant to turn over in the brisk morning air, settles into a rumble as I finish donning my gear. Go »

I call him Sushi........

My wife and I have a thing for Amberjack......this is my final sculpture (required anyway) for the semester I shot these before I finished welding the rest of the chain on (5-6 hours today) right now he's covered in salt getting rained on in hope of promoting a patina which I can clear coat. The plan is to add numbers and hang him on the front porch in place of the numbers now there...I'll Go »

post pain pump

spending nearly a day on a Morphine pump was great but, it did little to prepare me for being out of the hospital or for that matter give me any idea just how much pain I was going to be in. Before I left the hospital my wife (who is a Nurse, the Pain Management Nurse at the hospital and I worked out this plan for the meds I was gonna need over this 1st week of my recovery...well that slowly disintegrated yesterday afternoon and by midnight I was in tears while my GSP sat with me licking my face...2 Go »
