Ok this is new england it's not supposed to be this hot...I'm sure Amy actually feels at home but it's been too long since I lived in Guam this is hot. I had plans for this weekend but instead other than a dump run I tried to stay in and stay cool. I failed on both accounts because I needed to do some work in my garage...even the dog was unhappy spending time outside and readily accepted being hosed off. But my garage is more organized though still not clean...I got rid of a kayak...got our bikes hung from the rafters and after not accomplishing enough ended up soaked to the skin

The highlight of my weekend was the realization that our new computer fund was full...so i have a new (to me) refurb Macbook on its way to me this week...I finally get to become completely bilingual. I have been looking forward to switching to a Mac for the last few years, my complete annoyance with windows and my present computer's continuing registry errors and I'm ready for a change...

Four Replies to sticky nasty weekend

You get used to every summer day being hot here, so you almost don't notice when there's a real scorcher. Friends up north have to point out the scalding temperatures across the country for it to sink in. I've heard from several this weekend.

oh I know I lived in Guam for 4 years, In Guam it only drops out of the 90's (with 100% humidity) when a typhoon rolls through...and most of that temperture drop is windchill; 100-200mph winds chill regardless of the ambient temp. I'm just whining because I don't like hot weather, and days like today (also in the high 90's) make me yearn for someplace like Portland

more liquid metal

My sculpture Professor decided that the burner we use for melting metal wasn't working out well, since it was designed for a forge and not a furnace he had a furnace burner made.....it used to take hours to melt 20lb of bronze, it took us 40 minutes yesterday. I have never seen the crucible as hot as it was. Go »

starwars up close

OK I have what is called closed angles in my eye's which although I have no symptoms is considered a precursor to glaucoma...I've known this for a couple of years and since my maternal grandfather had glaucoma and my father has the same problem with his eyes I've really just been putting off having corrective surgery since I returned from Japan 2 years ago. What this means is that the eye's drains which are behind the iris are not as open as they should be which can lead to increased fluid pressure in the eye and posible damage to the optic nerve, or so they tell me. A good day in the studio

In general this week was horrible I got Gastro and lost a half my remaining class days to finish the pair of sculptures I'm working on.......however today was good I got about 3 hours of alone time in the studio, just my my tools (a pair of angle grinders with wood cutting/shaping disks) a block of wood and a dust collector......... I put about 5 inches of chips in the dust collector and got a good start on the last piece. Go »

happy home maker

Ok before my furnace blew up I had been investing in food items for longterm storage and use. I got a deal on 1pound of vanila beans around new years as well as 2 gallons of peeled garlic last week. Anyway with water turned off in my house all day yesterday (furnace being replaced) I decided that it was a good time to do something about all the garlic and while I was at it make some xmas presents for next year (added bonus time spent in front of the stove means warmth). I am in school fulltime taking care of the cats, the dog the house and whatever else pops up while my wife and best friend moves to DC to take her dream job. Go »
